Britney Spears accepted the first award for Best Female Video. The singer thanked her "beautiful family" especially her sons. This is her first Moonman. But it wasn't the last. The singer also took home two other moonmen, beating the Jonas Brothers and winning the coveted Video of the Year.
Demi Moore presented the night's second award for Best Male Video to Chris Brown.
The Jonas Brothers performed their song, "Love Bug" on the Paramount studios lot in a scene that resembled Sesame Street.
Most decorated Olympian Michael Phelps talked about the music that "put him in the zone" before he swam at the Olympics and introduced the "giant I call Lil' Wayne," Leona Lewis and T-Pain's performance.
Ciara and Lindsay Lohan presented the VMA Dance Medal award to Fanny Pack, from America's Best Dance Crew. They also presented the Best Dancing in a Video to the Pussycat Dolls.
The cast of Twilight introduced Paramore's performance of "Misery Business."
Slash and Shia LaBeouf presented the Best Rock Video to Linkin Park while Miley Cyrus introduced Pink's performance of "So What."
Slipknot, donning their signature masks, and McLovin's Christopher Mintz-Plasse presented the award to Lil Wayne for Best Hip Hop Video.
Jordin Sparks took a jab at host Russell Brand for poking fun at the Jonas Brothers who wear promise rings. Her take? "I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It's not bad to wear a promise ring, because not everybody – guy or girl – wants to be a slut." The American Idol also wears a promise ring.
Brand sort of apologized later saying "I didn't meant to take it lightly. I don't want to piss off teenage fans. Promise rings, I'm well up for it. [But] a bit of sex, it never hurt anybody."
The cast of High School Musical 3: Senior Year (Ashley Tisdale, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Corbin Bleu) introduced Christina Aguilera's sexy performance where she sang a newer version of "Genie in a Bottle," and her new single, "Keeps Getting Better."
Lauren Conrad and Gossip Girls cutie Chace Crawford presented the Best New Artist award to Tokio Hotel, upsetting Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
Paris Hilton handed a second moonman to Britney Spears for Best Pop Video. The mother of two beat the Jonas Brothers!
Kid Rock needed a little liquid courage to perform "All Summer Long." Lil' Wayne, in red pants, joined the rocker on stage and added his own spin to the song.
